Dr. Angela N. Martin

Angela N. Martin, DVM was born in the Bronx and always dreamed of being a veterinarian. From the time she was a child, she participated in programs at the Bronx Zoo and worked at small animal hospitals to pursue her interest.

She attended the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University where she majored in Animal Science and graduated with her B.S. in 1999. She was thrilled to be admitted as a junior to the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University and graduated with her DVM in 2002. While in veterinary school, she received the James Gordon Bennett Prize, an award for excellence in anesthesia and pain management.

Since graduation, Dr. Martin has gained valuable experience in general practice as well as in emergency medicine and surgery. She founded Island Veterinary Group in 2010 with her friend and colleague, Dr. Jaime Wiener. Providing exceptional veterinary care in the animals’ homes has been incredibly rewarding. She enjoys serving even more pets now at Island Veterinary Group’s Brick and Mortar Animal Hospital.

Dr. Martin is a member of the Long Island Veterinary Medical Association, the New York Veterinary Medical Society, the American Veterinary Medical Association, and the American Association of Feline Practitioners. She is also a proud supporter of the Cornell Feline Health Center.

Dr. Jaime Wiener

Dr. Wiener is originally from Dix Hills and had always known she would be a veterinarian.  Animals have always played a very important role in her life. Dr. Wiener grew up riding horses and caring for her own little menagerie.

Dr. Wiener attended the University of Vermont where she majored in Animal Science and graduated in 1998 with her B.S degree.  She attended Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated with her DVM in 2005.

Dr. Wiener is a member of the Long Island Veterinary Medical Association, the New York Veterinary Medical Society, the American Veterinary Medical Association and the American Association of Feline Practitioners.  Dr. Wiener is proud of her profession and enjoys caring for her patients and their families each and every day.  She currently resides in Huntington with her husband and three children.

Dr. Alex Kaplan

Alex Kaplan, DVM grew up in Huntington and for as long as he can remember, he has had great interest and passion for the sciences. He has loved learning about animals for as long as he can remember as they have always played a great role in his life.

Dr. Kaplan attended the State University of New York College at Geneseo where he majored in Biology and graduated with his B.S. in Biology in 2019. He then transitioned right into Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine where he graduated with his DVM in 2023.

Since graduation Dr. Kaplan has gained valuable mentorship and experience alongside his long-time friends and colleagues Dr. Wiener and Dr. Martin. He has been with Island Veterinary Group since he was first starting on his journey in veterinary medicine and looks forward to stepping into his new role and passion of being a veterinarian. He continues to look forward to many different experiences and remaining as a lifelong learner in the ever-changing field of veterinary medicine.

Dr. Kaplan is a member of the Long Island Veterinary Medical Association, the New York Veterinary Medical Society, the American Veterinary Medical Association, and the American Association of Feline Practitioners. Dr. Kaplan is a proud member of the veterinary profession and looks forward to a long and deeply rewarding future of caring for animals to come.

Angelina Ortiz, LVT

I’m Jezabel, but I prefer to be called Angelina, isn’t that easier to pronounce? I am originally from El Salvador and I came to this country at the age 10. I have been in Huntington ever since.I always loved animals since I was a kid, there is no better feeling in this world knowing that I could help an injured animal. Angelina graduated from vet tech school at Suffolk County Community College.

Meg Ambrosio, LVT

Meg has worked at Island Vet Group since 2008, taking a small break but has returned full time. She loves being an LVT and helping the patients and doctors here, especially in surgery. She currently resides in Huntington with her husband, daughter, dog, and cat.

Kayla Wade, Veterinary Assistant

Kayla has been working in the animal care field for four years. Originally from Kings Park, she started off by working with small animals such as reptiles, at Sunken Meadow State Park. She then transitioned into working with larger animals, such as cats and dogs.

Kayla spends her time cuddling with her three cats and her dog. She is excited to be working with Island Veterinary Group, and can not wait to help care for your furry family members!

Stefania Lutas, Veterinary Assistant

Stefania grew up in Queens and moved to Long Island with her family once she started college. She graduated in 2021 with her bachelor’s degree in Zoology from SUNY Oswego, where her favorite classes were Wildlife Management and Evolution. She is currently studying to become a veterinary technician and hopes to one day attend veterinary school.

In her spare time, Stefania enjoys traveling, hiking, and walking her two cats.

Cameron Fehrs, Veterinary Assistant

Cameron Fehrs, a devoted Veterinary Assistant at Island Veterinary Group, hails from the vibrant town of Huntington, NY, where she has resided her entire life. Her journey into the veterinary field stemmed from a lifelong passion for animals, nurtured since her childhood. After graduating with a degree in Health Science from Sacred Heart University in May of 2023, Cameron’s path led her to pursue her love for animal care in her hometown.

Her decision to enter the veterinary industry was a natural extension of her deep-rooted affinity for animals. Prior to joining Island Veterinary Group, Cameron gained valuable experience working at a dog boarder and daycare, where she honed her skills in animal care and welfare. Her favorite aspect of working with animals is facilitating positive experiences for them during veterinary visits, assisting in their healing process, and ensuring their well-being. Cameron’s unwavering dedication to the welfare of animals has solidified her commitment to furthering her education to become a Veterinary Technician.

Outside of her role at the clinic, Cameron enjoys spending time with her beloved pets—a testament to her enduring love for animals. With two cats and a dog by her side, she embarks on adventures, cherishing every moment spent nurturing the bonds she shares with her furry companions. Cameron’s passion for animal care extends beyond the confines of her workplace, shaping her identity both personally and professionally as she continues to enrich the lives of animals in her community.

Katie Gugler, Receptionist

Katie is a born and raised Long Islander from Suffolk County. She has always had a deep love for nature and animals of all kinds ever since a young age. Katie started her journey into animal care by volunteering at Sweetbriar Nature Center in Smithtown and instantly fell in love working with animals from mammals to reptiles to birds! She is a proud cat parent to a 5 year old, one eyed Domestic Shorthair named Stanley. Katie is extremely passionate about Horticulture and Intersectional Environmentalism, and hopes to one day own a farm of her own to start a huge family of plants and furry/feathery/scaly friends! Some activities  that she enjoys include reading, bread baking, watching scary movies, traveling and going to see live music.

Jensy Torres, Receptionist

Jensy was born and raised in Huntington Station, NY and has always had a different kind of love for animals! Her love for animals blossomed as a result of spending a year at Wilson Tech Boces. She has two animals of her own; her dog Milo and her bunny Toby. They are Jensy’s best friends! Jensy intends to follow her ambition and pursue her dream of becoming a veterinary technician!

Sandi Furman, Receptionist

Sandi is one of the welcoming and friendly people you meet when you call or visit IVG. She always greets you and your furry friends in a compassionate and professional manner, will schedule your appointments, discuss your prescriptions, coordinate with your insurance carrier, and be sure your questions are answered in a clear and accurate manner. She is always helpful, very organized and an important part of the IVG family. Sandi came to us after a successful career in Marketing and Real Estate, and she is thrilled to be working with animals, something she has always wanted to do! She currently lives in Huntington with her family, and her 6 year old goldendoodle, Leo.

Jess Carey, Receptionist

Jessica recently pivoted from a career in project management and design to reception at Island Vet Group. She grew up mainly in Connecticut and on Long Island, then majored in history and art history at NYU. A lifelong supporter of wildlife, nature, and marine conservation, as well as the arts, she loves going to the Bronx Zoo, hiking, kayaking, boating, and going to museums. Jessica resides in Huntington with her family and their cat, Minky.
